Kentmere to Longsleddale loop

A cosmopolitan start to the morning with an espresso and croissant at the Artisan Bakery Staveley slightly delayed my departure but it was worth it. I biked over from Kentmere to Longsleddale not seeing another biker this morning. The return loop was busier, but with this amazing weather I expected plenty of people out today.

Farmers ingenious use of a plastic lid!

Buttertubs or bust....

The plan was to get 30 km + done today on the mountain bike, but after a late start and needing to get back for a 'dinner date' it didn't quite pan out that way...
le tour preparations and a pet skunk!!
However we did get a good ride in from Hardraw deep in the Yorkshire Dales. I'd not realised that Le Tour Yorkshire passed through here and it was nice to see the villagers preparing for this with bunting, decorations etc.

The famous Buttertubs climb

What was slightly sad/embarrassing were all the signs along the route trying to money grab from this amazing event by suggesting people can pay to camp (£200+ for the weekend), park or even stand (£5 to stand in a road side field) and view the race - greedy!!

Long climb.... no wonder our average speed was so low!
Our route started up the classic Buttertub road climb before heading off along the moorland plateau towards Sedbusk. After a brief cafe stop we headed to the very beautiful Cotterdale, this section was great with a very long off road climb, which I'm sure contributed to our whole rides very slow average speed of 5.5 mph!
